Amadeo Rojas

Amadeo Rojas has taken it upon himself to ensure his community has fresh, clean water.

He has been a member of the water committee in his district - Capellania, Bolivia - for ten years and is now the president. Whether this requires him to be lowered 50 meters down to clean a well or water tower or conducting weekly inspections of the water system, Rojas is the man for the job.

When the committee was first created, one of their first projects was to dig a well. Not long after they began, the committee came across numerous boulders. Soon the committee had to call upon the help of every member of the community. Unfortunately, the townspeople’s assistance wasn’t enough. Many failed attempts later, the committee eventually used trucks and tractors to clear the boulders. But their troubles certainly weren’t over. They came across so many problems that construction of the well lasted over a year.

Impure water can result in illness and disease. The well, among other contributions Amadeo has made, have made a lasting effect on his community.
