Don Anacleto

When Don Anacleto moved to Villa Rivero, Bolivia, he was surprised at how little the people in his community knew about water and sanitation. He dug his own well by hand and shared it with his neighbors. Every day, they would come to collect the water.

But wells do not provide an endless supply of water, nor do they automatically make it clean. And the people of Villa Rivero still were not informed about sanitation.

Now all that has changed. The government program Mi Agua and association Water for People recently installed a water system in the area, providing 100 people in Villa Rivero with clean, fresh water.

Each family pays two dollars per month for this water, an affordable amount for the people of this area. Every three months, the families come together to clean the system and fix any problems.
